George W. Glennie Memorial Nature Salon:

This nature salon was the brainchild of John Toivola, who was our program chairman during the 1980-81 season. It was to be held in memory of long-time Lawrence Camera Club member, George Glennie. George was an avid photographer, but loved nature photography most of all. He was instrumental in organizing a "nature group" to promote all types of nature photography. The group originally met on their own, but because of the excellent response, it was decided to make "nature night" a regularly scheduled meeting of the club. It has continued to the present time with very few changes.

John Toivola laid the groundwork and organized the first George W. Glennie Salon. The club officers and members cooperated to make it a great success. All camera clubs in New England are eligible to participate. We use three qualified judges who vote on a ten point basis making it possible for a slide to receive thirty points. Both club and individual awards are presented. 22 Clubs participated in our first effort so it was decided to make it an annual event. The salon has continued to be a success with a high of 25 entries in 1987. Lawrence Camera Club has been an unofficial entrant each year and not eligible for prizes. In 1990, however, the rule will be changed to allow Lawrence Camera Club to become an official entrant.

Through the years, we have had entries from 44 clubs throughout New England.

The Tenth Anniversary salon is scheduled for April of 1990. We are looking forward to a record number of entries, and of course, plenty of volunteers to work on it.
