"This is a picture of the dome on top of the Rockingham
Mall, in Salem NH. I didn't have a tripod with me, so I just
set the camera on top of the roof of my car to keep it still.
The shot was taken right after sunset, the sky was starting
to get dark, and the neon lights were easy to see. I tried
several settings, but the canned "Fireworks" setting in the
camera gave the best results.
I brought the picture into Photoshop, cropped it so just
the dome was visible, and applied a Glowing Edges filter.
The filter caused the neon lights to be a little more pronounced,
and the filter also caused the twilight sky to become black,
which was a very pleasant surprise as I felt the dome looked
better against the black background than the original twilight
sky. However, the black was not consistent, probably due to
the gradients of color in the original sky.
I used the stroke command to create the border around the
picture, then copied the picture into a new 8x10 file with
a black background and then used the magic wand to select
the black sky and deleted it. The end result was just the
neon lights within the dome against a black background."
