I've been passionate about photography since high school
when my friend introduced me to the darkroom his father had
built. Ironically, I was more interested in the father's technical
discussions about shooting and developing photos. While still
in high school, I bought an Olympus OM-10 (35mm SLR) and built
my own darkroom.
In college, I was a photographer for the newspaper and photo
editor of the yearbook. Eventually, I started my own photo
studio, "Soft Light Photography", where I used a special lighting
system that I built myself. My OM-10 was replaced by an Olympus
OM-4 (another 35mm SLR).
I enjoy experimenting with my three very different cameras
- a Nikon F5 (35mm SLR), a Hasselblad XPan (35mm medium format
panoramic rangefinder), and a Toyo AX45II (large format 4x5
field camera). Generally, I concentrate on landscape and architecture
encountered in my travels through New England and beyond.
Most recently, I have been engaged in the production of photojournalistic
multimedia slide shows.
My fascination with computers has developed in parallel,
often intersecting with my photography. I am a professional
web developer and am fluent in "digital darkroom" techniques
using Adobe Photoshop and an assortment of scanners and printers.
As founding editor of AlwaysPhotographing, I hope that our
work and experience will inspire others, just as my friend's
father inspired me.
